Oriental Bank, Wipro tie up for centralised banking

Bangalore: Oriental Bank of Commerce has chosen Wipro Infotech as the partner for its ambitious Information Technology (IT) project to provide state-of-the art banking service to its customers, according to an official press release.

The bank has embarked on an initiative of IT enablement of its banking processes by opting for a centralised banking solution, the release said.

Wipro, as the prime integrator, will be responsible for integrating Infosys' core banking and Internet banking solutions. Wipro will also provide telebanking and cash management systems solutions to the bank, according to the release.

In addition to the applications, the prime integrator will provide the infrastructure platform comprising of high availability Sun Microsystem machines and Wipro Intel servers to support the applications, the release said.

Oriental Bank of Commerce has planned a pilot phase to bring 25 branches under the core banking solutions (all branches linking directly to the central database server) by March 2004. Subsequently, the bank will roll out to cover 500 branches in four-and-a-half years' time frame, the release said.
