Sale of cars up by 28 per cent, exports double

New Delhi: Sale of passenger cars rose by 28 per cent in April 2003 from last year's level. The number of units sold came to 42,506 compared to 33,195 in 2002.

Leading in this section was Maruti, followed by Hyundai and Tata Engineering.

The exports more than doubled to 8,306 units from 4,034 units in April 2002, according to the flash results released in New Delhi on May 14 by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM).

Motorcycle sales increased by 6.1 per cent to 3,03,792 units from 2,86,313 units during this period. Hero Honda topped this list with 1,32,031 units, which was slightly less than 1,34,801 units sold in the corresponding month of 2002. Bajaj Auto, next in line, also showed a decline to 67,902 from 68,597.
