SENSEX recovers after weak start at early stages
Wednesday, April 30 2003 12:30 Hrs (IST)

Mumbai: Starting on a weak note, the SENSEX later fluctuated in a narrow range of about15 points in line with restricted activity ahead of tomorrow's (May 1) holiday on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) on April 30 on alternate bouts of buying and selling.

The BSE Sensitive Index opened moderately lower at 2942.42 as against April 29 close of 2950.14 but later recovered smartly and rose to a high of 2955.26 before being quoted at 2952.93 at 10.30 am.

Attributing the turnaround to a smart rally in Zee Telefilms in which foreign funds were believed to have bought a sizeable chunk of shares, brokers said.

GAIL (Gas Authority of India Limited) also attracted some buying after it was reportedly included in MSCI index.

RIL, MTNL, HPCL, BHEL, CIPLA, Dr Reddy's Lab, SBI and Tisco were quoted marginally higher on fresh buying.

However, Satyam Computers, Infosys Tech, Bajaj Auto, Grasim Ind, Hero Honda, ICICI Bank, Telco and Ranbaxy Lab showed moderate losses.
