Reliance not to change mobile tariff plan
Tuesday, April 15 2003 20:49 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: Putting at rest speculations about sustainability of its 'affordable' tariff, Reliance on April 15 said that there would be no change in its tariff plan and customers would get the STD facilities within its network at 40 paise a minute as part of 'Dhirubhai Pioneer Offer'.

The statement from spokesperson of Reliance Infocomm came within hours of Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) comments that Reliance was yet to submit its revised tariff package under the new dispensation incorporating Interconnect Usage Charges (IUC) regime, to be effective from May 1.

In the wake of news reports questioning the sustainability of the Reliance's tariff package under the new dispensation of interconnect usage charge from May 1, Telecom Regulatory Authority (TRAI) chief Pradeep Baijal had earlier said that no discrimination by any player would be allowed.

"This implies that the service provider should not charge different tariffs for calls originating and terminating in its own network or calls originating in its own network and terminating in other networks offering the same type of service," Baijal said.

Reliance spokesperson said, "there will be no change in tariff plans under Dhirubhai Pioneer Offer and customers can continue to make STD calls on Reliance India Mobile Network at 40 paise per minute.

"However, customers will be required to pay off-net charges payable to other operators," he said adding that the same was communicated earlier also.
