Tuesday, April 15 2003 22:28 Hrs (IST)

Bangalore: IT bellwether Infosys Technologies Ltd has been chosen for the CII-Exim bank award for business excellence in 2002.

Infosys was chosen among 10 companies, including Indian firms operating abroad, CII (Confederation of Indian Industry) past President and Vice Chairman The Sanmar Group N Kumar said in Bangalore on April 15.

The award would be presented later this month at the annual general body meeting of CII in New Delhi.

Delivering the keynote address at the CII winner's conference in Bangalore, Infosys Chairman and Chief Mentor N R Narayana Murthy said the company had set its goal to be a globally respected corporation when it was founded in 1981.

"We are a very young organisation and are still in the very early stage of our journey towards excellence," he told business leaders at the conference organised at the CII quality institute on the outskirts of the city.

Murthy said the company leadership set example to drive excellence and spent up to 25 per cent of time devising new methods for improvement.

"Senior leaders dedicate 15 to 20 days per year developing other leaders. All our leaders have more than 25 to 40 per cent of pay tied to performance results," he said.

Murthy said Infosys had 41 consecutive quarters of profitable growth since it went public and added that it was due to the Predictibility, Sustainability, Profitability and De-risking (PSPD) model it had adopted.

He said Infosys' customer satisfaction had improved consistently over the last five years.
