Short war won't hit Indian IT industry: NASSCOM
Friday, March 21 2003 13:05 Hrs (IST)

Bangalore: A short war on Iraq would have no impact on India's Information Technology industry, the NASSCOM (National Association of Software and Services Companies) said on March 21.

"No impact...zero impact," NASSCOM president Kiran Karnik told reporters on the sidelines of a function.

Should the war be a prolonged one, which NASSCOM believes would not be the case, there would definitely be impact on world economy - which would go into recession - travel and businesses, he said.

On the increasing "backlash" against Indian IT professionals and outsourcing to India in some parts overseas, Karnik said, "This is something you have to live with. These are problems of successes, one might say."

He also hastened to add that India would have continue to address concerns of those countries, unions, associations and individuals (opposed to recruitment of Indian IT professionals in their countries and also outsourcing to India).

According to him, a public affairs firm has been hired to engage them in discussions, telling them that outsourcing offers many benefits, is a good way to cut costs and it's a win-win situation.

However, he said, companies are outsourcing to India because this country offers best proposition for outsourcing, with better quality and productivity at lower costs.
