Chennai: Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) has been awarded 'ISO 14001' for sustainable environment management practices.

The certification process initiated in March 2002 by TUV SUDDEUTSHLAND covered areas like awareness training, technology upgradation, recycling, waste management and fulfilling government regulations, a company press release said.

"We are proud of the fact that HMIL is the first manufacturing facility of Hyundai Motor Company (HMC) outside Korea to achieve this distinction," J J Kim, managing director, HMIL said in the release.

The company had put in place an environment management system (EMS) at its manufacturing facility in Chennai right from its project stage, the release said.
