Bangalore: Leading two-wheeler manufacturer Bajaj Auto would make 125 cc motorbikes
for Japanese Kawasaki for its exports outside India, a top Bajaj executive said on
March 8.
The bike, yet to be ready and in the product design stage, would be sold with
Kawasaki branding, R L Ravichandran, vice president, Business Development and
Marketing, Bajaj Auto Limited, told reporters.
"Bajaj can manufacture as per the specifications of Kawasaki for exports outside
India," he said after announcing the launch of the company's Caliber 115
motorbike.
The 125 cc market of 2.5 million per annum in Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh, Egypt,
South America and Indonesia, apart from India, would be targetted, Ravichandran
said.
Kawasaki is a technology partner of Bajaj.
Bajaj, which claims a market share of 44 per cent in the entry-level segment of the
bike market, expected to make a dent in the executive bike category with Caliber
115, he said.
Ravichandran said "executive bike" is a "weak segment" for Bajaj and with Caliber,
the company targetted to sell 25,000 bikes from April itself.
Developed under the Kawasaki platform, Caliber 115 is being launched across the
country over the next one week, he said.
