Shekhawat calls for people-centric globalisation
Saturday, February 15 2003 16:24 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: Stressing on the need to have people-centric globalisation, Vice- President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat on February 15 said industry should gear up to face the challenges of globalisation and aim at poverty alleviation.

Inaugurating PlastIndia 2003, Shekhawat asked industry to ponder over the issues involved in globalisation and face the challenges posed by it in its march ahead.

"Globalisation is very much going to stay with us. Globalisation has helped us in bringing about new ideas and knowledge, provided new opportunities of trade and increased access to market technologies. It also implies moving towards a new world order with shared ideals of Democracy, development and growth," he said.

The underlying philosophy in the globalisation perceived by the country also upheld this, he said and asked industry and trade to adopt this value-based approach as integral part of any global action.

Shekhawat pointed out that the country was moving forward on the strength of its competent young professionals, who were academically sound, professionally thorough and had high motivation. The country was poised to leap forward and transform into a developed nation by 2020 and plastic industry was destined to be leading partner in this.
