Saturday, February 1 2003 15:57 Hrs (IST)

Dubai: India and Iran have an ongoing co-operation in space research, a top official of the Iranian company, which claimed ties with Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) said.

Iran's ComKar System Communication "already co-operates with ISRO", Kamran Majdmanesh, its managing director said.

He, however, did not elaborate on the nature of co-operation, according to Iran's official IRNA news agency.

Majdmanesh, a member of an Iranian delegation on a recent visit to India to attend the joint business session of Indo-Iran Chambers of Commerce said, "The business meet opened a good opportunity for both countries to work together.

"The two sides have decided to establish a factory in Iran jointly with Indian partners to manufacture cabling devices, including telecom and power cables," he said.

Mohammad Reza Maghsoudi, general manager of another Iranian company Pella Melamin Kashan, said the "ground is being prepared for signing 30 agreements soon as a part of co-operation between the two countries".

"The North-South Corridor will forge a new relationship between India, Central Asia and Iran," he added.

Mohammad Hassan Entezari, an advisor to President Mohammad Khatami and an official of the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology, said the "main co-operation will be with the Ministry of Information Technology of India".

An agreement was inked between India's National Association of Software and Services Company (NASSCOM) and Iranian Association of Computer Industry (IRICA).

"Iran is a large and growing market in the Information Technology (IT) sector and Indian companies can show their capabilities there," he said.
