SENSEX opens firm, software shares spur
Friday, January 3 2003 12:16 Hrs (IST)

Mumbai: Led by Infosys Tech, majority software shares were in limelight at the opening session on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) on January 3, mainly spurred by strong upsurge on the Wall Street on January 2 night.

The BSE-30 share sensitive index opened firm at 3,380.44 from the previous close of 3,365.06 and moved in a narrow range of 3,386.97 and 3,371.52 before being quoted at 3,379.45 at 11.00 am (IST).

Dealers attributed the smart upswing in software counters to positive advices from New York where the Dow Jones industrial average and the tech-heavy NASDAQ composite index shot up by 265.89 and 49.34 points respectively on January 2 following unexpected surge in the manufacturing sector.
