Singh unwell, Kelkar to submit report a day late
Thursday, December 26 2002 12:50 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: Advisor Vijay Kelkar, who was to submit his first report on indirect taxes on December 26, has postponed it as Finance Minister Jaswant Singh is unwell.

Official sources said it would now be submitted on December 27 along with the report on direct taxes.

Kelkar task force on tax reforms, which has already submitted two consultation papers on direct and indirect taxes, is expected to water down some of its recommendations in the final report, particularly on personal income tax pertaining to incentives for housing loans in the face of widespread criticism from within Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
