Wednesday, November 20 2002 18:26 Hrs (IST)

Mumbai: The SENSEX opened firm and surged up further in line with sustained stocks rally at early stages on Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) on November 22 on fresh purchases by foreign institutional investors as well as speculators.

The BSE Sensitive Index opened strong at 3121.17 as against the previous close of 3101.36 and later rose further to a high of 3139.84 before being quoted at 3134.71 at 10:30 hours (IST).

The Dow Jones Industrial Average soared by 222.42 points and the NASDAQ Composite Index by over 48 points on November 21.

Heavyweighted counters like RIL, Infosys Technologies, ITC, MTNL, Satyam Computers, SBI and Telco were quoted sharply higher at early stages on heavy buying support.

Brokers, however, said the market is likely to meet some reaction in the form of profit booking during latter part of the session since it has witnessed continuous uptrend in the past five sessions.
