Hyderabad: Leaders of Indian corporate world have pledged to take up social causes
as their core mission and help improve quality of life for their employees and local
communities.
For the captains of industry gathered at the Fifth Social Summit, which got underway
in Hyderabad on November 7 night, the common thread binding them was commitment to
integrate corporate social responsibility into their companies as a core
value.
The three-day summit, organised by Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) as part
of efforts to promote advocacy on corporate social responsibility, was inaugurated
by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu who urged business leaders to
help women self-help groups in the state to market their products.
The summit, focussing on the theme 'Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR): from
words to action', is being attended by a galaxy of corporate leaders and some
representatives of NGOs to deliberate on how CSR initiatives could contribute to a
sustainable development and generation of wealth for the
business in the long run.
With a soul-stirring presentation, Sudha Murthy, chairperson of Infosys Foundation,
stole the limelight at the inaugural session held at Dr Marri Channa Reddy Human
Resource Development Institute in Hyderabad.
