Sony to unveil new range of multi-purpose drives
Saturday, November 2 2002 16:11 Hrs (IST)

Chennai: Sony Electronics, the world's leading core technology company, is to come out with a totally new range of advanced multi-purpose drives, combining Audio Visual (AV) and IT channels for Personal Computers, by December.

"This pioneering technological initiative will further enhance the applications and use of PC devices," Ron Low, regional account manager, Sony Electronics, Singapore, told reporters on November 2.

Low was in the city in connection with the launch of the company's new generation DVD (digital video disc) writers, priced at Rs 27,500.

He said Sony would also be launching a new range of high-speed (52X) CD writers in the Indian market within a month.

With the proliferation of the PC and Internet in India, there is enormous potential for rapid growth in the Indian market for these products from Sony's stable.

The company has entered into a tie-up with Mumbai-based Rashi Peripherals for marketing its display and storage products, including the newly launched DVD writers in India.

The newly launched DVD writer, which was compatible for DVD plus and DVD minus technologies, could also be used as a CD driver, he added.
