New Delhi: The Supreme Court on October 30 fixed November 20 for final hearing of
the dispute pertaining to wireless in local loop services (WLL), where cellular
operators have filed a petition challenging government's decision to allow basic
telephone providers to offer limited mobility services.
The apex court has directed that the hearing of the case would take place on
November 20, 21 and 26.
Limited mobility services issue, which is one of the most controversial cases in
telecom, has been a bone of contention between basic and cellular operators for over
a year, with the latter moving the apex court after a telecom tribunal, the Telecom
Dispute Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT), on March 15, 2002 upheld
government's decision to allow the basic operators in the country to offer limited
mobility or wireless in local loop services.
