Bangalore: The government of Kerala has taken serious initiatives to develop Kochi as the major centre of Information Technology in the state, according to an official press release.

The Kinfra Park is being developed to provide the necessary infrastructure for the IT-Enabled Services. The advantages of connectivity from multiple underwater Optical Fibre Cables landing at Kochi and the state-of-the-art data centre of VSNL will be the major advantages for Kochi, the release said.

The 250-acre land at Kalamasserry under the possession of the government will also be developed as an exclusive IT park with private participation. The sides of the airport to seaport road will be developed as an IT corridor in future, according to the release.

To lead these initiatives, the IT Mission, Kerala has appointed K G Girish Babu as the chief operating officer of IT Parks. Girish Babu will be positioned in Kochi and will co-ordinate the activities for the IT Mission, the release said.

Girish Babu was the former chief executive officer (CEO) and president of iOrmyx India, Bangalore, and the chief operating officer (COO) of iQxel Infotechs. While in the government, he has served KSIDC, Kerala Hitech Industries and the IT Mission earlier, the release added.

In the forthcoming IT.COM Bangalore, Kerala will showcase Kochi as a major destination for investment in IT enabled services.
