Bangalore: The Indo-German Chamber of Commerce Awards (IGCC) are given every year
for outstanding corporate achievements. Over 102 companies have applied for the
awards in 2002.
The following are the categories included in the IGCC:
I. Award for Outstanding Achievement in Indo-German Economic Relations:
Sam Ghosh, managing director of Bajaj Allianz General Insurance Company Limited,
Pune. Bajaj Alliance General Insurance Company Limited, ranked number 1 among the
private insurance companies today, has been one of the leading investors in India
during the post liberalisation period. The JVs created close to 500 jobs within the
first year of operation and has insured more than 6 lakh customers in a period of 16
months.
Ramesh Dhar, Chief Operating Officer, Motherson Sumi Systems Limited, with a
technical collaboration with WOCO Franz Joseph Wolf & Co, was set up primarily to
fulfill the export commitments of Mercedes Benz India Ltd. Having started its first
commercial production in a record time of seven months since its inception in
November 1997, the company’s exports to Germany increased 8 per cent to Rs 314.2
million in 2001.
II. Award for Outstanding Export Performance by an Indo-German Joint Venture
Anil R Laud, managing director of Siemens Information Systems Ltd., Mumbai. Siemens
Information Systems Ltd’s exports of software services increased an impressive 65
per cent in the year 2001 to Rs 1775 million, this despite the difficult global
environment with respect to Information Technology. Exports contributed to 80 per
cent of the total turnover.
A N Sinha, managing director International Ferrites Limited, Kolkata, with 78 per
cent of its turnover generated through exports, International Ferrites Limited
registered exports sales worth Rs 522 million in 2001. Apart from this, the company,
which deals in soft ferrites, has won several other awards for excellence and
outstanding achievements.
