Bangalore: Hero Honda Motors Limited has targeted to sell 18 lakh motorcycles in the current financial year, envisaging a 26 per cent growth compared to the previous fiscal, a top company official said.

Launching its latest offering "Ambition" for South India in Bangalore, senior vice- president, marketing & sales, Atul Sobti, told reporters that seven lakh bikes have been sold in the first five months (April-August) of 2002-03, up 34 per cent.

The world's number one individual two-wheeler company is eyeing to sell 10,000 units of 'Ambition', a 133 cc bike per month in six months, Sobti said.

Claiming that 'Ambition' is focused on power, fuel efficiency and style, he said it would be targeted at people aspiring to "move up in life".

The company said 'Ambition' has a powerful engine, promising mileage of 79 km per litre and a top speed of 100 km per hour under test conditions. It's priced at Rs 43,857 (Bangalore ex-showroom).
