New Delhi: In a bid to encourage private investment in water supply works, government on August 31 decided to exempt machinery for setting up water purification and desalination plants from customs and central excise.

RBI to review projected growth rate in October
Mumbai: Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on August 30 said that there was a "strong possibility" that the projected growth rate of 6-6.5 per cent, in its annual monetary and credit policy statement for 2002-03 based on assumption of normal monsoon, would not be realised but a re-assessment would be attempted in October.

Heavy purchases lifts SENSEX past 3,180 mark
