Bangalore: Michael Bastian on August 24 assumed charge as chairman and managing director (CMD) of Syndicate Bank.

Bastian, who was the executive director of Vijaya Bank, had been appointed to the new post upto August 31, 2004 by the Union government, a Syndicate Bank release said.
