PM to chair full Plan panel meet in October
Wednesday, August 21 2002 15:01 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: The full Planning Commission meeting under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee is expected to be held in the first week of October.

This was stated by the deputy chairman Planning Commission K C Pant after a meeting of the committee on transfer of Centrally-sponsored schemes.

"An internal meeting of the Planning Commission will be held which will be followed by the full Planning Commission meeting in the first week of October," he told reporters.

Pant, however, said that the date for the National Development Council (NDC) meeting with state Chief Ministers had not yet been finalised.

He said that official level meetings with concerned ministries would be held by the Commission before the full Planning Commission meeting to finalise the format for the Centrally-sponsored schemes as per suggestions made by the state governments in August 21 meeting.

The last NDC meeting was held on September 1, 2001, which approved the draft approach to the 10th Five-Year plan (2002-07) envisaging a gross domestic product (GDP) growth rate of eight per cent.

Sources said that the Commission was in the process of finalising the individual sector specific chapters for the 10th Plan document, which would be tabled at the full Planning Commission meeting ahead of the NDC.
