Bangalore: The Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) India, is planning to take up with market regulator SEBI issues pertaining to the role of internal auditing and duties of internal auditors, a top IIA India official said on August 19.

President of IIA India, T Sriram, told reporters that a paper on the role of internal auditing and elaborating on the duties of internal auditors would be submitted to SEBI.

He said that it would be finalised at the council meeting of IIA India, next month, and added that the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India have also proposed a submission of their own in this regard before the SEBI.

The move comes close on the heels of the new accounting regulation in the US, the Surbanes Oxley Act of 2002, which highlighted the importance of the role of internal auditors.

Meanwhile, the 26th Annual All India Conference of the IIA would be held in August 19 on August 23 and 24 with the theme "Corporate objectives, controls and assurance in a networked environment".

Sriram said that the conference would showcase both the business perspective to risk, controls and governance and the changing role of the internal audit profession in this scenario.

More than 300 delegates drawn from industry and profession from all over the country are expected to attend the conference, which would be addressed by eminent speakers from the industry and audit firms from Dubai, Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Bangalore, it was stated.
