Thursday, July 4 2002 18:44 Hrs (IST)

Chennai: The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) has complimented the Tamil Nadu government for its decision to reduce the entry tax rate to 3 per cent from the existing range of 4 to 20 per cent on various commodities.

In a statement on July 4, CII also welcomed the state government decision to allow set off against Tamil Nadu sales tax for goods sold in the state, as well as part set off for goods sold under central sales tax (CST).

"These reliefs would spur the growth of the industry, especially the manufacturing industry during the current recessionary phase," CII state unit chairman P K Mohapatra said in the statement.

The statement said that CII would take up with the state government, the issue of branch transfers for those companies in Tamil Nadu, which cater to the all-India market.
