Chennai: Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd will be shortly conducting a market study of
China with a view to explore export possibilities in that country, a top executive
of the company said.
'We would like to export at least 15 per cent of our new offering, Scorpio, a sports
utility vehicle', Alan Durante executive director and president of automotive
sector, Mahindra and Mahindra, said while launching the product in Chennai.
He said the presently the company's vehicles were being exported to countries like
Rumania, South Africa, Indonesia, Malaysia, Nepal and Bengladesh adding that
prospects of exporting to the Chinese market look good.
He said the company had invested around Rs 250 crore for bringing out Scorpio, which
he said, was expected to take the company's market share in the multi utility
vehicles segment to 45 per cent from the present 34 per cent.
Refering to reports that Scorpio had not been subjected to "crash test' before the
launch, he said it was planned to take the vehicle abroad for such a test in a
couple of months as no such testing facility was available in India.
