Mahindra to survey China for export potential
Friday, June 28 2002 16:59 Hrs (IST)

Chennai: Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd will be shortly conducting a market study of China with a view to explore export possibilities in that country, a top executive of the company said.

'We would like to export at least 15 per cent of our new offering, Scorpio, a sports utility vehicle', Alan Durante executive director and president of automotive sector, Mahindra and Mahindra, said while launching the product in Chennai.

He said the presently the company's vehicles were being exported to countries like Rumania, South Africa, Indonesia, Malaysia, Nepal and Bengladesh adding that prospects of exporting to the Chinese market look good.

He said the company had invested around Rs 250 crore for bringing out Scorpio, which he said, was expected to take the company's market share in the multi utility vehicles segment to 45 per cent from the present 34 per cent.

Refering to reports that Scorpio had not been subjected to "crash test' before the launch, he said it was planned to take the vehicle abroad for such a test in a couple of months as no such testing facility was available in India.
