Labour panel to submit report to PM on reforms

Thrissur: The National Labour Commission will submit its report to Prime Minister A B Vajpayee on June 29, commission member C K Saji Narayanan said on June 26.

In a statement here, Narayanan, who is also all-India vice-president of the Bharathiya Mazdoor sangh, said the commission would propose wide ranging reforms in the labour sector, besides looking into various aspects involving the trade unions.

The 10-member commission, headed by former Union Labour Minister Ravindra Varma, had visited various states and taken evidence from various sections of the society, he said.

The commission was also proposing an umbrella legislation for the unorganised sector.
