Mumbai: The SENSEX opened weak and later moved downwards in lacklustre activity at
early stages on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) on June 25 due to sustained selling
pressure and lack of any worthwhile support.
The BSE sensitive Index opened moderately lower at 3,226.21 as against June 24 close
of 3,231.62 and later dipped to a low 3,215.80 before being quoted at 3,222.35 at
10.30 am (IST).
A sharp setback in an old economy heavyweight Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) that met
with heavy selling, largely affected the index movements.
Selling in RIL was attributed to news that Dhirubhai Ambani, chairman of RIL, has
been admitted to Breach Candy hospital and was in the intensive care unit after he
suffered a stroke.
Despite a recovery in the NASDAQ Composite Index by about 19 points on June 24,
software counters failed to attract any fresh buying in the light of consistent
selling by foreign institutional investors (FIIs) for the past several days.
