Mumbai: The SENSEX opened firm and showed signs of recovery in line with a positive
turnaround in IT stocks at early stages on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) on June
13 on fresh buying support by punters as well as institutional investors.
The BSE Sensitive Index opened moderately higher at 3,358.97 as against the previous
close of 3,344.41 and later improved further to a high of 3,369.63 before being
quoted at 3,355.09 at 10.30 am (IST).
Led by Infosys Tech and Satyam Computers, several IT stocks staged a smart recovery
in the light of encouraging trend on Wall Street on June 13 night. The NASDAQ
Composite Index rose by 21.94 points and the Dow Jones Industrial Average by 100.45
points on June 12.
Market sources said punters and retail investors were also seen fairly good buying
in low-priced second-line stocks following June 11’s net purchases of Rs 117 crore
by Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) that had forced domestic operators remain
cautious with heavy net sales on June 10.
