New Delhi: India will supply three lakh tonnes of wheat to Sri Lanka this year and
sign line of credit for $ 100 million for supply of goods from India, Finance
Minister Yashwant Sinha announced on June 10.
"We have decided that the details of the wheat agreement will be worked out within a
day or so and that the agreement should be ready for signature, and hopefully the
supply of wheat would begin moving very soon," Sinha told reporters after a 45-
minute meeting with visiting Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.
There are two lines of credit to Sri Lanka, one is for the supply of 300,000 tonnes
of wheat and the other for $ 100 million for supply of goods from India, he
said.
"We discussed these outstanding issues," Sinha said adding the reform programme of
the government of Sri Lanka also figured prominently during the discussions.
"Our experience of economic reforms therefore is of particular relevance to Sri
Lanka," he said.
Indicating that wheat supply would be at the rate of 25,000 tonnes per month, Sinha
said the joint statement to be issued on June 11 would give out the details.
He said the terrorist funding did not figure during the discussions. "I did not
raise the issue."
