New Delhi: India and Sri on June 10 decided that the review of their bilateral Free
Trade Agreement (FTA) would be put on a "fast track" and fixed a four-week timeframe
for resolving all outstanding issues.
"We have given a timeframe of four weeks. We have zeroed in on all issues. An Indian
official level team will visit Colombo on July 5 to sort out all outstanding issues
in the Indo-Sri Lankan free trade agreement," Commerce Minister Murasoli Maran told
reporters after his 30-minute meeting with visiting Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil
Wickramasinghe.
Maran was assisted by Commerce Secretary Dipak Chaterjee, and Wickramasinghe by his
Commerce Minister Ravi Karunanayake.
Maran said the two countries discussed all trade related issues between them. "We
have decided to put the review of FTA on a fast track.
"We want their market access and they want our market access. There has to be a give
and take and that would be the approach," Maran said.
