Devangere: Karnataka Telecom Circle will provide 1 lakh new telephone connections in
another 60 days. The additional capacity for the current year is 5 lakh lines.
Chief general manager of Karnataka Telecom Circle Padmanabhan told reporters in
Devangere on June 6 that the Wireless in Local Loop (WLL) service, which has been
already introduced in Bangalore, would be extended to Mysore, Kolar, Hassan and
Tumkur districts in the next 60 days. The service will also be extended to all
cities by the end of the year.
He said that 27,062 identified villages have been provided with public telephones by
Bharati Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL).
BSNL will be rolling out its mobile service during 2002 with 163000 lines and adding
another 150,000 lines by 2003 at a total cost of Rs 150 crore, he added.
