New Delhi: Swiss watch manufacturer Tissot has revived the avant garde Classic Prince model and launched it 85 years after it was first produced. The Classic Prince draws upon the Art Deco style of the 1920s and '30s that infused the everyday world with elegance and cool sophistication.
The Classic Prince is a quartz movement watch inspired by the model of that name first produced by Tissot in 1917 and relaunched, slightly modified, in 1991. Referred to as the "Banana" watch because of the curve of the case that follows the curve of the wrist, these watches were illustrative and innovative for their time, embracing the new Art Deco style that was just emerging, only to express itself fully at the Paris Exhibition in 1925.
The Art Deco style was conveyed through pure geometric streamline forms as can be seen in the curved lines of the bold rectangular Classic Prince case and the clear elegant numbering on the dial, set off by the sober leather strap.
This new edition (available in two models) changes somewhat from the original with the steel dial replaced in the stainless steel version by a warmer ivory coloured dial and in the gold PVD version by a softer, more elegant silver opaline dial. Both models sport elongated dark sapphire blue numbers stretched towards the 12 and 6 o'clock positions and pointed to by bleuté hands. A black calfskin strap with a folded buckle sets off the case. With characteristic attention to detail, the Heritage Tissot signature can again be found engraved on the metal clasp. Like all the watches in the Heritage Classics collection the Classic Prince bears on the dial the former stylised Tissot logo that was first designed in 1925 and used up until 1956 and the Heritage "T", again a feature of this collection, is found on the crown. All watches in this collection are inspired by models of the past, representative of their time. The exclusive and elegant Classic Prince, meant for the thoroughly modern man or woman, is priced at Rs 13200 upwards.
Tissot entered the Indian market in September 1999 and has since then developed a distribution network of 75 outlets spread all over the country. Tissot's product offerings in the domestic market are in the sport, chic and regional categories. The models available in the sports segment are PR 50, PR 100, PR 200, PRS 200 and Atollo; in the chic segment Ballade, T-collection, Bellflower & Pockets; and in the regional lines Seastar quartz and automatic.
