Chennai: "Atal Behari Vajpayee Centre for Information Technology" set up in
Mongolia, would commence functioning from September 2002, Mongolian Ambassador to
India Oidov Nyamdavaa, said.
Talking after inaugurating a full-fledged consulate in Chennai, he said the decision
to set up the centre, a joint venture between the governments of the two countries,
was taken during the visit of Union Parliamentary Affairs
Minister Pramod Mahajan to Mongolia last year.
He said it had also been decided to set up joint venture higher secondary schools,
colleges and a university in that country between Ulaan Bator and New Delhi and also
with Indian private sector participation.
Referring to an eight-member official trade delegation from his country currently in
Chennai to attract Indian investment in Mongolia, Nyamdavaa said the team had
visited Central Leather Research Institute in Chennai and discussed upgradation of
tanneries in his country.
Private sector leather industry was also approached to set up manufacturing units
for finished leather products.
