Non-bailable warrant against Reliance president
Monday, April 29 102 14:35 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: A Delhi court issued a non-bailable warrant (NBW) against the president of Reliance Industries V Balasubramaniam for failing to appear before the court on April 29 in connection with the recovery of classified documents from the corporate office.

Issuing the NBW, chief metropolitan magistrate Sangita Dhingra Sehgal rejected the application of Balasubramaniam seeking exemption on medical grounds.

The court, after taking the cognisance of the CBI complaint on April 5, had summoned Balasubramaniam, group vice-president A N Sethuraman and before the court on April 29.

The application moved by the Reliance counsel was not supported by any medical certificate.

Reliance counsel B R Handa had moved a separate application for cancellation of NBW before the court, which would be taken up on April 30.

The other two officials had been sent to judicial custody till May 13.

Balasubramaniam, the third accused in the CBI complaint filed on March 16, was admitted to a hospital as he claimed to have been advised bed rest following a brain tumour operation recently in the United States.

The entire court proceedings were held in-camera.

In its complaint, the CBI has charged Balasubramaniam, Sethuraman and Adawal of committing offences under Section 120-B (criminal conspiracy) read with Section 5(4) and 5(2) of the Official Secrets Act and filed a separate charge against Balasubramaniam under Section 5(4) read with 5(2) of the Official Secrets Act.
