Moscow: Russia is keen on trans-national integration with the Indian Defence complex
in cutting edge military technologies including the aviation sector, a top executive
of its aircraft industry said on April 22.
Development of Russian and Indian aviation sectors depends on a large part on mutual
penetration of futuristic technologies and integration, chairman of Irkut Aircraft
Corporation Alexey Fyodorov said before leaving for Delhi to attend a two-day
seminar on Indo-Russian Defence co-operation beginning from April 23.
The world has reached a stage when only a handful of corporations like Boeing,
Lockheed-Martin of the US and European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company have the
financial and technological potential to develop futuristic aircraft and are poised
to monopolise global markets, he said.
"In this condition Indian and Russian aviation industries have a choice to become
suppliers of cheap technology and components to them or pool over efforts and
integrate our aviation complexes and establish our brand," he said.
He said that the Indian aviation industry has taken a quantum leap in developing
composite materials and other equipment. "I have visited the Bangalore facility
which makes airframes for light combat aircraft (LCA) from carbon composite
materials. We have the choice to install this technology or directly order readymade
parts from India. I would prefer the second option for our Be-200 amphibious
aircraft project," Fyodorov said expressing readiness to share Titanium-welding
technology with Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL).
