Bangalore: CDC Linux Private Limited has signed an agreement with the Council of
Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) as an industrial partner to develop
products, addressing the scientific requirements of genomic and proteonic research
in India.
CDC Linux managing director Dr B K Avasthi told reporters here on April 15 that the
main thrust of this project was the development of versatile, portable software for
bioinformatics on the GNU/Linux platform and the establishment of a high
performance, cost-effective and scalable
supercomputing infrastructure for research organisations in the field of
bioinformatics across the country.
As part of the project, CDC Linux will be collaborating with the Centre for
Biochemical Technology (CBT) New Delhi and will be developing products like
Genedecoder (Gene Prediction Tool), Proteome Calculator (Comparitive Protein
Sequence Analyser) and See-Path (Intelligent Protein Classifier).
Avasthi said the product jointly developed by CBT and CDC Linux will be a worldclass
Indian product available for international market.
The Department of Biotechnology has allocated Rs 200 crore for the project over the
next five years.
