Monday, April 15 2002 16:30 Hrs (IST)

Bangalore: CDC Linux Private Limited has signed an agreement with the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) as an industrial partner to develop products, addressing the scientific requirements of genomic and proteonic research in India.

CDC Linux managing director Dr B K Avasthi told reporters here on April 15 that the main thrust of this project was the development of versatile, portable software for bioinformatics on the GNU/Linux platform and the establishment of a high performance, cost-effective and scalable supercomputing infrastructure for research organisations in the field of bioinformatics across the country.

As part of the project, CDC Linux will be collaborating with the Centre for Biochemical Technology (CBT) New Delhi and will be developing products like Genedecoder (Gene Prediction Tool), Proteome Calculator (Comparitive Protein Sequence Analyser) and See-Path (Intelligent Protein Classifier).

Avasthi said the product jointly developed by CBT and CDC Linux will be a worldclass Indian product available for international market.

The Department of Biotechnology has allocated Rs 200 crore for the project over the next five years.
