Megawati invites Indians to invest in Indonesia
Wednesday, April 3 2002 17:17 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: Assuring captains of Indian business community of a politically stable and secure environment in Indonesia, President Megawati Soekarnoputri on April 3 invited them to invest in her country, particularly in pharmacy, agriculture, railway, construction and IT.

Addressing a joint FICCI-CII session on 'Strengthening India-Indonesia partnership' here, Soekarnoputri said, "Indonesia was trying to amend its investment policy. Our main objective is to open our door as wide as possible for the capital to enter the country, both for financing of new businesses and for expansion of existing ones".

"I invite you to see yourselves the current situation in Indonesia and to make direct contact with the partners there," she said.

Soekarnoputri, who is currently on a 4-day state visit along with a 40-member delegation, said her discussions with the Indian Prime Minister will also focus on paving the way for cooperation in areas of railways, IT, pharmaceuticals and agriculture.

She said that one of the purposes of her visit was to further enhance the bilateral relation between the people and governments of both nations.

Pointing out that the total value of trade between the two nations had reached only $ 1.5 billion, she said that the figure was still very small and there were still large areas of co-operation.
