Tuesday, April 2 2002 10:49 Hrs (IST)

Mumbai: The SENSEX opened better and remained past 3,500-level at early stages in keeping with a mild rally in select old economy stocks on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) on April 2 on fresh buying from institutional investors.

The BSE Sensitive Index opened up at 3,505.40 as against a close of 3,500.18 on April 1 and later rose to a high of 3,525.15 before being quoted at 3,514.74 at 10:30 hours (IST).

Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) were believed to have been making fresh purchases in Indian stocks, mainly shares of a few public sector undertakings (PSUs).

Domestic operators and retail investors were seen making small commitments in some counters.
