Select buying helps SENSEX gain in early BSE trading
Thursday, March 28 2002 11:25 Hrs (IST)

Mumbai: The SENSEX was well above overnight close in line with moderate gains in select index-based stocks at early stages on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) on March 28 on squaring up in derivatives by speculators.

Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) that have slowed down activity were believed to have been picking up shares of second-rung counters in small lots.

The BSE Sensitive Index opened moderately up at 3,464.32 as against a close of 3,459.08 and later moved upwards to a high of 3,483.98 before being quoted at 3,482.86 at 10.30 hours (IST).

Generally, operators were confined to month-end squaring up of positions in view of last Thursday on March 28 when all long or short positions are squared up in derivatives.

Meanwhile, the Dow Jones Industrial Average, helped by gains in its heavy industrials, recovered by about 47 points and the NASDAQ Composite Index improved further by just 2.58 points on March 27.
