New Delhi: Prices of domestic cooking gas (LPG) and kerosene for Public Distribution
System (PDS) in the country are the lowest in South Asia.
Price of domestic cooking gas in Delhi at Rs 240 (after decrease of Rs 20 per
cylinder) is lower than the cost of Rs 285 per cylinder in Pakistan, Rs 265 in
Bangladesh, Rs 300 in Sri Lanka and Rs 347 in Nepal, official sources said.
Even after an increase of about Rs 1.50 per litre announced in Budget, price of
Kerosene for PDS in Delhi at Rs 8.92 a litre is higher than Rs 11.56 per litre price
in Pakistan, Rs 14.44 per litre price in Bangladesh, Rs 9.06 price in Sri Lanka and
Rs 10.73 per litre price in Nepal.
Kerosene and LPG are subsidised to the extent of 33 and 30 per cent of import parity
price while petrol and diesel are overpriced the international price to cross-
subsidise the cooking mediums.
After the Rs 0.50 per litre reduction in price of diesel, the most consumed
transport fuel is priced at Rs 16.59 per litre in Delhi, which is higher than Rs
12.39, a litre in Pakistan, Rs 14.44 a litre in Bangladesh and Rs 16.31 per litre in
Sri Lanka. Only Nepal has a price higher than India at Rs 16.73 per litre.
The one Rupee per litre reduction in price of petrol in Delhi is higher than Rs
26.64 per litre in Pakistan, Rs 23.78 per litre in Bangladesh and Rs 27.09 a litre
in Sri Lanka.
Petrol in Nepal is priced at Rs 29.04 per litre.
