Equities open firm on fresh buying support
Thursday, March 14 2002 13:09 Hrs (IST)

Mumbai: Equities opened slightly better extending overnight gains on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) following fresh buying support due to receding fears of any tensions in the Ayodhya after Supreme Court's verdict maintaining status quo on the acquired land.

Reflecting the trend the BSE-30 share sensitive index resumed on a promising note at 3,573.98 and rallied further to a high of 3,590.43 before being quoted at 3,589.95 at 10:30 hours (IST) as against the March 13 close of 3,569.62.

Despite weak advices from wall street where the Dow Jones industrial average and the NASDAQ Composite index dipped by over 130 and 35 points on March 13 night respectively, majority of it counters attracted good buying support from operators.

Second-line stocks continued to be keen demand on investment buying.

Select pharma counters were in limelight on institutional buying.
