Mumbai: Powered by a sharp rally in one of the top heavyweights Hindustan Lever
(HLL), the SENSEX opened higher and rallied smartly at early stages on the Bombay
Stock Exchange (BSE) on March 7 on hectic buying by speculators as well as
institutional investors.
The BSE sensitive index opened moderately up at 3621.07 as against close of 3614.44
on March 6, and later surged up to a high of 3664.77 in keeping with gains in key
counters before being quoted at 3647.49 at 10:30 hours (IST).
Market sources also attributed the price rally to fresh spurt in New York stocks
that pushed up the Dow Jones industrial average by 140.88 points and the NASDAQ
composite index by 24.10 points on March 6.
Besides HLL, other heavyweights like Infosys Tech, GACL, Dr Reddy's Lab, Glaxo,
Satyam Computers and some others also showed fairly good gains.
