CII team to visit Lanka to improve bilateral trade

Chennai: A Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) trade delegation is scheduled to visit Sri Lanka for two days from February 24 to hold talks with Sri Lankan ministers of commerce and industries and trade bodies with a view to improving bilateral trade between the island nation and India.

The delegation headed by T Anantha Narayanan, chairman, CII, Tamil Nadu unit and executive director (finance), Ashok Leyland, will meet the chairman of the Board of Investments, Sri Lanka and members of Ceylon Chamber of Commerce during the visit, according to a CII release.

India's exports to Sri Lanka had increased from $ 430 million in 1997-98 to $ 520 million in 1999-2000, the release said, adding that imports from Sri Lanka had also gone up from $ 27 million to $ 46 million in the same period.

The release said that CII was planning to open a representative office in Colombo soon.
