Mahindra Satyam, formerly Satyam Computer Services has joined hands with European defence systems and automobiles maker Saab to develop operations in India for the global defence and homeland security market.
Potentially, the deal can generate $300-500 million over a 10-year period.
Mahindra Satyam and Saab have already initiated moves to set up of a Centre of Excellence for Network Centric Warfare.
"This will be a development centre for mission critical applications and C4I (command, control, communications, computers, and intelligence) solutions for global opportunities accessible to either of the partners," Mahindra Satyam said in a statement.
One of the activities under this initiative is that Mahindra Satyam and Saab will jointly address the battlefield management system (BMS) for the Indian Army.
The solution proposed by Saab is field proven and deployed in many countries.
Both parties intend to work together for Indian BMS program and explore globalisation of artefacts co-developed.
The company, however, refused to divulge details of the deal. Sources tracking the development said the deal could be of 10-year duration with a value of about $300-500 million.
"More than the value of the deal, we can confirm to you that this is definitely a large deal," a Mahindra Satyam spokesman told DNA Money, without divulging the exact size of the deal.
