Mumbai: Leading edible oils manufacturing company, Ruchi Soya Industries, is likely to import 1.8-2.1-million tonnes of edible oil in the marketing year starting November 1.
"The company imported 1.5-million tonnes of edible oil in 2008-09," Ruchi Soya Industries Limited s Managing Director, Dinesh Shahra," told reporters on the sidelines of a function here today.
The company plans to import 1.5-million tonnes of palm oil during the next year.
Ruchi Soya Industries expects its export to be about 1.5-million tonnes of soyameal during October-September 2009-10.
"We are looking at Europe which is going to be a big market for India. We hope India can meet the European demand for non-GM (genetically modified) feed," he said.
India is Asia s leading supplier of soymeal and was expected to export 4.5-4.6-million tonnes during 2009-10,up from 3.7-million tonnes sold in the previous year, Shahra said.
"Soyameal exports in 2008-09 is estimated at 3.7- million to 3.8-million tonnes," he said.
The company is expected to crush 2.5-million tonnes of soyabean in 2009-10 compared with 1.5-million tonnes this year.
"The company has increased its crushing capacity to 14,000-tonnes per day in 2009-10 from 10,000-tonnes a day last year," Shahra said.
