Wednesday, November 05, 2008 21:11 [IST]

New Delhi: Country's second largest carmaker Hyundai Motor India today said it has rolled out the first batch of 2,820 units of i20 from its Sriperumbedur plant for exporting to the European market.

The first consignment of i20 cars would be shipped to the UK, Germany, Greece, Austria, Croatia, Spain, Belgium, Holland and Hungary, the company said in a statement.

"The all-new i20 is set to become a best-seller in the Hyundai's European range. We are proud of the fact that within a month of its world debut, it has received such a phenomenal response," HMIL Managing Director H S Lheem said.

The company had unveiled the car in Paris Motor Show last month.

"In line with Hyundai India's positioning as the global export hub for compact cars, we recently started the third shift of operations to meet the anticipated demand," Lheem said.

The company currently exports to over 95 countries across the world and is targeting 110 countries by next year, the statement added.

The new markets that the company would target include Australia, Singapore, New Zealand, Martinique, Africa, Saudi Arabia, Israel, Palestine, Armenia, Georgia and Kazakhstan.
