Non-supervisory RIL staff observe day long strike
Friday, October 24, 2008 19:00 [IST]
Vadodara: Around 2,500 employees of the Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) working in 14 plants at the city outskirts observed a day-long strike demanding an increase in bonus.

The leaders of the three non-supervisory staff unions said that the company s bonus formula of crediting Rs 47,000 in their accounts was not acceptable to them.

The company has attached a condition with the bonus formula under which it will deduct Rs 15,000 from our arrears amount during the wage revision that is due, they told PTI.

This would result in the company giving us a bonus of Rs 32,000 that is Rs 8,000 less than the amount of Rs 40,000 paid as bonus last year, they said.

Despite writing to the RIL management not to deposit any bonus amount in our account until a settlement is reached, the company has gone ahead and deposited the amount which is unacceptable, they said.

The striking employees said they would review the situation before chalking out the future course of action.

Meanwhile, sources from the local management of RIL said that the production at the plants had not been affected following prior arrangements made by the company.

Commenting on the issue, Assistant Labour Commissioner of Gujarat said, the employees are adamant in their demands and RIL management is not willing to relent to it.

That has led to the failure of talks and the non-supervisory staff went on a strike today.
