ITC's second-quarter profit rises 4.2 pc

Mumbai: ITC Ltd., India's biggest tobacco company, posted a 4.2 percent increase in second-quarter profit.

Net income rose to 8.03 billion rupees ($161 million) in the three months ended Sept. 30, from 7.71 billion rupees a year earlier, the Kolkata-based ITC said today in a release to the Bombay Stock Exchange. That compares with the 8.18 billion rupee median estimate of 12 analysts surveyed by Bloomberg News.

ITC's sales in the second quarter rose 15 percent to 37.6 billion rupees. Analysts had expected 38.1 billion rupees.
