Bareilly: Senior BJP leader L K Advani on Monday sought to ridicule the UPA government over the Indo US nuclear deal saying the benefits of the agreement are meagre when compared to its huge costs .
Addressing a rally here in the politically key state of Uttar Pradesh, he said, "The benefits from the 123 agreement are meagre as compared to the huge cost. If someone approaches you asking for votes promising electricity after 20 years, tell them that you would vote for them after twenty years."
"Just to procure nuclear fuel, the government has entered into a deal which would curb our right to nuclear test. The Manmohan Singh government will be remembered in the history as one which blocked a third Pokhran," Advani said addressing a gathering as part of his Vijay Sankalp rally.
He alleged the Congress of compromising with independence and sovereignty of the country and spending two lakh crores for having five per cent of the energy requirements 20 years later while alternate sources like wind and solar energy were abundantly present in the country.
He announced that the BJP would be fighting the ensuing Lok Sabha polls on the twin planks of terrorism and price rise and chose not to mention the construction of Ram temple or any other hindutva agenda as done in the past.
He called on the people in Uttar Pradesh to give a befitting reply to Congress misrule by voting them out as they did in the post emergency election in 1977.
Post emergency 1977 Lok Sabha election is a milestone for Indian democracy when Congress scored a big zero in Uttar Pradesh out of the 85 seats. I call upon you all to repeat the same feat and give a political response to the Congress in this polls, Advani said.
