New Delhi: State-run power equipment maker Bharat Heavy Electricals today said it has bagged a Rs 990-crore order to set up a 500 MW (2x250 MW) thermal power plant in Rajasthan.

The order has been placed by Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Ltd (RRVUNL) for setting up two units of 250 MW each as an expansion project of Chhabra Thermal Power Station.

"BHEL has received an order worth Rs 990 crore for setting up 500 MW (2x250 MW) thermal power plant in Rajasthan," a company statement said.

The project is slated for synchronisation during the 11th Plan and these two units will add 12 million units of electricity every day to the grid on commissioning.

BHEL's scope of work in the project includes design, engineering, manufacture, supply, erection and commissioning of generators, turbines and associated auxiliaries.

The equipment for the project would be supplied by company s Haridwar, Trichy, Ranipet and Bangalore plants.

BHEL plans to invest Rs 1,400 crore to build a manufacturing facility for castings and forgings, key components for power equipment.

It has also formed a 50:50 joint venture company with Heavy Engineering Corporation (HEC) to cater to the needs of castings and forgings.
